Amsterdam

One of Europe’s finest capital city known as Amsterdam. Amsterdam is said to be one of the greatest small cities in the world. From Amsterdam canals to world-famous Amsterdam museums and historical Amsterdam sights. And just like Paris, it is also one of the most romantic and beautiful cities in Europe. There is a lot to explore and learn all about Amsterdam’s culture, places and many more!

 Let’s start!

First attraction is the very centre and heart of the city, The Dam Square. This is more of a historical site but it’s worth your time and you can learn some history from it. If you want to explore Amsterdam without walking you should rent a bike or have a go at getting on a ferry to explore and tour along Amsterdam’s canals, this is a popular yet relaxing way to see the city from the perspective of its canals. Amsterdam’s museums are one of the main attractions, so here are some. Known for one of the fascinating and largest museums in the world the Rijksmuseum – The State Museum has an unparalleled collection of paintings and objects of material culture, prints and classic photography. Another famous museum is the Van Gogh Museum, World’s richest collection of one of the greatest painters in human history – Vincent van Gogh. Interesting temporary exhibits about the times van Gogh lived and worked, complete the show. The Anne Frank House is also a must-visit museum a very historic place because this is where Anne Frank & her family hid from the Nazis in a secret annex, during WWII and also where she wrote in her diary. Lastly I recommend you to visit is the Stedelijk Museum, with collections of 90 thousand modern paintings, sculptures, photographs, graphics, design objects and video artifacts to be shown. The most famous neighbourhood in Amsterdam known as Jordaan is a famous spot for tourists. During the 17th century this is was a district for the working class and emigrants. The district was then discovered by students, young entrepreneurs and as well as artists after the big renovation of Jordaan. Nowadays the Jordaan is compared to the rest of the town an oasis of peace with a labyrinth of narrow streets and little canals, nice for strolling around courtyards, art studios, and monumental buildings with stone tablets, old-fashioned ‘brown’ pubs, boutiques or galleries.

Just right in the centre of the city, the oldest zoo of Holland, Artis Zoo.This is a really fun attraction especially for family bonding! You can spend a day there because there’s just so much to explore, learn and see! It consists of four main areas: Zoo, Planetarium, Botanical Gardens and Geological and Zoological museum. There are about 30 parks in Amsterdam so I suggest taking a stroll in one of Amsterdam’s park is a must. The largest city park in Amsterdam, and the most famous park in the Netherlands. Another great park called Amstelpark is located in the suburb of Buitenveldert, southwest of Amsterdam. Another museum know as Stedelijk is one of the world’s richest collections of contemporary art, Amsterdam Municipal Museum – The Stedelijk Museum reopened in September of 2012 after prolonged period of enlargement and modernization. Last park I will recommend you to go is Hortus Botanicus, a large and amazing botanical garden and is one of the world’s oldest garden since est. 1632!

And of course what’s Amsterdam known for without their night-life culture and their cafe shops? If you wan’t to experience Amsterdam’s night life and fun the so called famous “red light district”(known locally as De Wallen) is one of Amsterdam’s top spots. If you’re a fun person ready to see explicit stuff, you might as well tour the place. In the red light district you’ll find a museum called Hash Marihuana and Hemp Museum. Rembrandtplein is also a night life attraction, it is lined with pubs, restaurants, cafes and even hotels. In the centre of the square is a small but pleasant park where you can relax or pay homage at the statue of Rembrandt. Last night life attraction I would recommend you to go to is Leidseplein, With many restaurants,
clubs, coffeeshops, cinemas and theatres in the area, the Leidseplein is vibrant and colourful. On warm summer evenings, tourists and locals alike take advantage of the pubs’ outdoor seating for a long, lazy drinks with friends. Street musicians, jugglers, fire-eaters and other performers liven up the square, often till the ibc amsterdamearly hours.A lot of people say Amsterdam is Europe’s Jamaica. This is because it’s easy purchasing Cannabis in Amsterdam and that Amsterdam is famous for it’s café shops that sell Cannabis! Although there are some rules about purchasing Cannabis which mean you have to be 18 and the purchase should not exceed more than 500 grammes. But hey! Look on the bright side at least you can purchase cannabis just from a Café shop!

If you want a peaceful stroll without having to hear Amsterdam’s traffic you should try going to The Begijnhof which is an enclosed courtyard way back since the 14th century. This is place is surrounded by beautiful houses, it’s free entry but you have to be quiet. There’s also a market which is known as the best outdoor market throughout Europe and it’s called Albert Cuyp Market it attracts thousands of visitors every day, and is especially popular on Saturdays as Amsterdam attractions. There are over 300 stalls and goods range from fresh produce, to clothes, to odds and ends, with prices among the cheapest. The market is located in the Pijp district, surrounded by many pleasant cafes and small shops. There is another number of regular street markets.
